In November 2024, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced a simultaneous revision of three key laws on sustainability: the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), the EU Taxonomy, and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD).

This revision, known as “the 1st Omnibus simplification package”, is part of the recent Competitiveness Compass initiative, which places regulatory simplification among the EU’s top priorities. The goal is to reduce the administrative burden associated with sustainability reporting by at least 25% for all businesses and 35% for SMEs.

The Commission is expected to publish the official legislative proposal on Wednesday 26 February.
